One of the powwow trail’s championship-calibre drums is coming to Red Deer. Bullhorn Singers of Kainai Nation have officially agreed to sing at Powwow Dance Championships #2 on October 24, 2026, bringing decades of powwow experience and a championship pedigree to the event.
Championship-level singing comes to PDC #2
Bullhorn Singers are not simply a host drum — they are proven competitors at the highest levels of the powwow trail. Led by Iskotoah’ka William “Billy” Wadsworth, Bullhorn has travelled throughout Canada and the United States since 1998, competing and winning championships along the way. In 2025, Bullhorn finished third in the World Championships of the Black Hills Singing Contest at He Sapa Wacipi in Rapid City, South Dakota.
That is the calibre of sound dancers and fans can expect at Powwow Dance Championships #2: powerful singing from a drum that has proven itself against elite groups from across Indian Country.
From Kainai Nation and Treaty 7 territory
Bullhorn Singers come from the Blood Tribe, Kainai Nation, part of the Blackfoot Confederacy in Treaty 7 territory in southern Alberta. Kainai is one of the Niitsitapi nations of the Blackfoot Confederacy. The Blood Reserve lies between the Belly and St. Mary rivers, with Stand Off serving as a central community.
Kainai’s connection to the land, language and culture runs far deeper than the reserve boundaries established after Treaty 7. The Nation’s own Kainayssini declaration identifies Kainai as a member of the Blackfoot Confederacy, recognizes the Blackfoot language and names Ninastako and Mookowanssini as sacred places. Treaty 7 was signed in 1877, and the Blood Reserve remains the largest reserve in Canada by area.
Bullhorn itself grew from family. Billy and his late brother Blaine Wadsworth began singing as children before building the group with younger cousin Bueford and other relatives and extended family members. That family foundation grew into a drum that has travelled the powwow circuit for decades.
Bullhorn’s sound has travelled beyond the powwow trail
Bullhorn’s reputation has also carried their voices onto major stages. Their collaboration with Reuben and the Dark developed after performing together at the Calgary Stampede and grew into recording, festival appearances and touring across North America. Their collaborative work has reached film and television audiences as well, including music featured in promotion for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

Powwow Dance Championships #2 — October 24
Powwow Dance Championships #2 takes place October 24, 2026, in Red Deer, Alberta. Powwow Times is building the event as an exciting, family-friendly showcase where audiences can experience elite powwow dancers, championship-level singing and head-to-head dance competition in a production designed to bring spectators close to the action.
