The Last of His Tribe Full Movie was actually based on a biographical book called Ishi in Two Worlds written by an American author Theodora Kroeber and was first published in 1961.

After Theodora Kroeber had spent 2 years studying the sources about him. It sold widely, remained in print for many years, and was translated into more than a dozen other languages. The book was twice made into a film, once in 1978 and then again in 1992.

It was highly praised by reviewers, who commended Kroeber’s writing and her ability to evoke the Yahi culture. Scholar James Clifford once stated that the book “wrapped up Ishi’s story in a humane, angry, lovely, bittersweet package.”

Movie Plot.

Based on actual events, The Last of His Tribe is set in 1911 and tells the story of Ishi, a Yahi Indian, a tribe that was thought to be extinct who was found by a group of white men in a field

Ishi’s struggles to adjust to an unknown alien society are told with sensitivity and intelligence. He’s held in the local jail until, an anthropologist, can bring him to the San Francisco Museum of Anthropology.

He becomes the ward of the museum’s director and a renown anthropologist, who gives Ishi a job as a museum helper and who then teaches him English. He’s kind and wants to care for Ishi and write a book about him.

As they come to know each other, the museum director asks Ishi how he came to be alone and Ishi tells his story.

It turns out to be a tragic tale of how his people were senselessly hunted and killed by barbaric white men. The stoic Professor Kroeber teaches Ishi, the professor learns a great deal about life and feelings in return.
