Red Pheasant Powwow is underway and we are now on day 3 of the Powwow. The Powwow is a weekday Powwow that is happens usually in the first week of July.

In this post, we will talk about the Powwow, camping area, porta potties situation, food options, singing, dancing, specials, schedule and programming, and overall score of this Powwow.

Powwow Overview

The Powwow itself is run by a lot of Powwow people who are dancers and singers themselves. The area is full with a lot of culture, language, and heritage. When you come here, you know that the people are ceremony people and have been to many Powwows themselves.

If you want to be surrounded by a lot of good Powwow people, then Red Pheasant is a place you should check out.

Camping Area

There is a lot of camping space at the Powwow. The area is pretty clean and if you come early, you can get a really good spot to camp. I still haven’t found a fresh water source here where campers can get water for their camp.

Also I haven’t seen a place to dispose of garbage if your camp is filling up garbage bags. There really isn’t any traffic control here, so it’s kind of a free for all when it comes to traffic. People are kind of parking where they want to park.

Because people can park where they want, there is a lot of announcements for people to move vehicles so other people can leave.

Other than that, the camping is great. There is a lot of washrooms close by each camping area. Also anywhere that you camp, you are not really too far from the dancing arbor which makes it good for a quick walk to go watch the dancing and singing.

Camping area is 6/10

Porta Potty Situation

So far the Porta Potties have been fairly clean. I wake up around 8am each day at the camp and when I go to the washroom, it was already clean. That was pretty cool to see. Because people are parking wherever, throughout the day, the septic truck can’t get through at some places.

I did go to the washroom late at night, around 10pm and it was pretty dirty. Over all the porta potties situation is a 5/10.

Food Options

There is a few food options here with food trucks that pulled up. You can get burgers, fries, salads, soups, and more.

I found that the food trucks shut down kind of early while the powwow is still going on. The one truck still open was Ramsays food bus.

Overall I would say the food options is 6/10

Dancing & Singing

The Red Pheasant Powwow is a vibrant and culturally rich celebration that showcases the mesmerizing art of powwow singing and dancing. Held annually, this event brings together Indigenous communities from various tribes, creating a colorful tapestry of traditions, music, and dance.

One of the standout features of the Red Pheasant Powwow is the incredible drum groups that provide the heartbeat of the event. The resonating beats of the drums create a powerful rhythm that reverberates throughout the gathering, captivating both participants and spectators alike. The drums at Red Pheasant Powwow are renowned for their exceptional quality and serve as the backbone of the powwow experience.

There is drum groups like Young Spirit, Whitefish Jrs, Two Nations, War Paint, and Wooden Face, just to name a few.

The singing is a 8/10

Schedule and Programming

The programming is in line with the schedule they hand out when you first come into the Powwow. Everything has been running very late.

Each day adults finished up about 2:30am.

That makes it very tough to do Powwow. It is a weekday Powwow and most people need to get ready to go to the next Powwow on the weekend.

We will see how it goes, I am hoping today which is the last day that we end early and get everyone on the road safely at a good time.

There is no reason why a weekday Powwow should end later then 8pm.
