There are many legends and stories in Native American Culture. The first people of this land had always encountered different beings. The little people, omens, spirits and more.

One of those beings are the Giants. In this story let us tell you about Eya. A giant that roamed the prairies and feasted on Woman and Children.

Iya is considered a storm monster that comes out and feasts on humans, animals, and will even consume entire villages. It is the brother of Iktomi the spider.

Iya has an endless appetite and will keep eating until there is no one left.

The power that Iya has is the ability to manifest Thunderstorms, Snowstorms, Tornados, and hurricanes.

When these storms rage through, it is said that Iya will travel within the storm in his Tipi that is painted with magical symbols, and when it does appear, many times it is formless and faceless.

It is said that Iya resides under the waters where it lives with its mother, Unk.

Iya is said to be a king of the North and a guardian of the Aurora Borealis. He does have enemies as well such as the Chief of the south, Okaga. Another enemy is the Thunderbirds.

Whenever the North is facing hard winters, famine, and disease, it could be attributed to Iya.
