It felt like Powwow season was just around the corner as people from across Indigenous country planned their trips to Powwows, Round Dances, conferences, and events throughout U.S.A and Canada.

Now it seems like the world is stopping and self-quarantined practices are being practiced throughout the lands.

Gathering of Nations, the largest Powwow gathering announced that they had been forced to post-pone their event for the safety of New Mexico.

Other events started to follow suit such as Denver March Powwow. This event was slated to go down March 20-22, 2020.

The First Nations University of Canada also has followed suit with what is going on and decided to Postpone their event as well. Many people throughout Canada and U.SA travel to all these Powwows and now are having to hold back a bit to find out what is going to happen in the next few months regarding our Indigenous Celebrations.

A new casino was built in Lloydminster Sk, and part of that they wanted to celebrate the opening with a Powwow. It was a Powwow that many were looking forward to but again with what is going on, they kept the safety in mind of the people and decided to cancel the event.

It was not just Powwows that are cancelling their event dates, but other gatherings such as Round Dances, Sporting Events, Conferences, and more.

Let us know in the comments below of the Powwows or events in your area that are being cancelled or postponed to a later date to help our Powwow people stay informed.

Take precautions, stay clean as possible, offer some tobacco to Mother Earth, and light up some smudge for everyone.
