Are you into horror films? then you have come to the right place.

Blood Quantum: The First Indigenous Zombie Movie. As a First Nation’s Person and a fan of horror films, I am very excited for this movie. Zombie films have been around since the early 1930s and they keep getting better and better with each passing year. Blood Quantum for me is such a genius idea I can’t help but to say “why I didn’t think of that?”. With the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most popular movie’s on Netflix is actually the zombie movie Contagion. So with that, let us explore more about Blood Quantum.

So Why The Name?

So, “blood quantum” refers to a blood measurement system that is utilized to determine someone’s Indigenous status. It is often shunned upon and it looked at as a way to control and erase the actual linage of Indigenous peoples.

Written and Directed by the Mi’kmaq film director Jeff Barnaby. The term “Blood Quantum” takes on an even more interesting meaning as the title depicts an apocalyptic scenario where an isolated “Mi’gmaq” reserve finds out they are actually the only humans immune to a zombie plague.

As people from the surrounding cities go to the “Mi’gmaq” reserve in search of safe haven from the outbreak, the community must decide whether to let these outsiders in and risk the extinction of their tribe, also the extinction of Humanity.
