It has often been said that if you follow these teachings you will have a good life. Balance is key and there are many areas in our lives in which we must tend too.

Just like a garden has different plants so does our lives and spirits. So in order to nurture and take care of our lives, we must learn what those different aspects are.

So with that lets learn together The 7 Ojibway Teachings.

1.Respect

The 7 Ojibway Teachings

It was said that the first teaching we were given was the teaching of respect.

This teaching of respect was symbolized by the buffalo, To know respect is to really know how to give.

The buffalo was once a vital resource for the First Nations people of long ago and every part of that buffalo was used. The buffalo gave every part of itself so that the people could survive and that’s how much the buffalo respected the people that walked this earth.

2.Love

The 7 Ojibway Teachings

The next teaching is about love, and it is symbolized by the eagle.

I love you, probably the most three powerful words on earth.

Without love there would be nothing but chaos and darkness so if you learn to have love in your heart and to walk with love then your life with be filled much joy and happiness.

3.Courage

The 7 Ojibway Teachings

The next teaching is that of courage and this is symbolized by the bear.

In life many times in life you have to courage to do the right thing.

Do you have the courage to be who you are? To really walk and live the teachings of your people?

In this day and age many of our people have been led off the path of their traditional ways so much so that they are afraid to be traditional because its not cool or not fun. But when that happens you have to have the courage not to care what people think of you which is easier said than done.

4.Honesty

The 7 Ojibway Teachings

The next teaching is that of honesty which is symbolized by the mysterious Sasquatch.

Honesty is when you have the ability to speak from your heart and not with your mind.

Being honest is telling the truth and also keeping your word. After facing many hardships from colonization many of our people have learned not to keep your word from the white man.

That’s why you see a lot of people getting lied too and having their reputations tarnished. Courage and Honesty go together well.

5.Wisdom

The next of these teachings is that of wisdom and that is symbolized by the beaver.

To know wisdom is to know that you have a gift. Each and every single person on this earth was given a gift and it’s up to us to learn what that gift is.

When we learn what our gift is then we must use it to help and serve others. If you do not use your gift you will get sick because your spirit needs that act of doing that gift to thrive. That is why people get depressed is because they are not using their gift creator has given to them.

The beaver’s gift is his teeth, the ability to cut down trees. If the beaver decided to not use his teeth one day the beaver teeth would grow too long and he would die. The same thing applies to us.

6. Humility

The 7 Ojibway Teachings

The next teaching is humility and that is symbolized by the wolf.

Being humble is to acknowledge that there is a higher spirit above you and also to think of other people before you think about anything else.

In this technology world its all about likes and attention, the more likes you get the more popular you are. This popularity sometimes gets to people’s heads and causes them to start teaching poorly and not in a good way.

That’s why its important to be humble and understand that it’s not always going to be about you. That’s other people matter too and you have to be okay with that. Be humble

7. Truth

The last teaching is truth and it is symbolized by the turtle.

When the turtle goes on land it leaves a trail and its trail that we must follow. The reason why we must follow this turtle is that it carries the rest of the other teachings, respect, love, honesty, courage, wisdom, and humility.

The 7 Ojibway Teachings reflect the identity that is in each and every one of us. We must maintain balance within all of the aspects of life to live a good life.
