The London Tower Bridge is one of the iconic places in London, England and it’s where the Powwow Times team went to go perform. Travelling many miles from Alberta, Canada, Powwow Times brought Indigenous singing and dancing to London.
It was a tough experience at the same time, because this is the place where the Crown is. The Native American people in Canada have an agreement with the crown through Treaties. When signing these treaties, the Indian Act was formed and brought the start of residential schools.
We travelled over to London to help educate the people who had no idea about Residential Schools. They had no idea about the histories that happened with the Native people in Canada and the Crown.
When we danced and sang there, we told the people to search about our people. To search about residential schools and learn about the truth.

Dancing at The London Tower Bridge
Dancing the Tower bridge was also a cool experience. The Tower Bridge is usually full with tourist, but because of our event, they cleared out the entire bridge for us to perform for a small group of people.
The dance area was this glass floor that looked to the ground many feet down. Many people were experiencing vertigo just walking on top of the glass. We were able to dance on the glass and tell our stories.
Promoting Indigenous Tourism and Truth
The purpose of our trip to London was to educate the people who want to travel to Canada about Indigenous people. It was also to invite them to our established businesses that we have that are Indigenous. When travellers come to Alberta, most want to have an Indigenous experience.
It’s really important for the travellers to know about the truths that our people face. Our Powwow Times group went their to teach as much as we could and to lead them more learning experiences with our people on our land here.
If you have an Indigenous business or experience, make sure you let us know in the comments below.
