Brigette Lacquette is a trailblazing Canadian ice hockey player and Olympic gold medalist. Born and raised on the Cote First Nation reserve in Manitoba, Lacquette became the first First Nations woman to represent Canada in ice hockey at the Olympics when she won a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
Lacquette’s journey to the Olympics was not an easy one. Growing up, she faced numerous challenges, including a lack of resources and support for female hockey players on the reserve. Despite these obstacles, Lacquette persevered and developed into a talented defenseman with a fierce competitive spirit.
In addition to her Olympic success, Lacquette has also made a name for herself at the international level, representing Canada at several World Championships and winning gold at the 2017 Four Nations Cup. She has also played professionally in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) for the Calgary Inferno and the Montreal Canadiennes.
