Did You Know? That the movie black robe was actually a book, a novel written by author Brian Moore that was published in 1985. The book takes place in the 17th century in New France and is about the things that happened between Europeans and First Nations people after the first contact. The First Nations people of this time would call the French Jesuit Priests “Black Robes” because of the black robes they would adorn everyday. Thus why the book and the movie is called Black Robe

With the fascinating cinematography and storytelling, it’s easy to see why these are these are some of the most memorable movies about First Nation’s People around, Or even most memorable movies around period, I mean just take a look at this awesome poster for Black Robe from back then? Pretty good I must say.

Set in 1634, this film follows Father LaForgue (Lothaire Bluteau), a French Jesuit priest sent to search for a Canadian mission in the middle of nowhere surrounded by Huron settlements. LaForgue, guided by a group of Algonquin natives, journey’s on a trek across the unfamiliar territory and treacherous terrain. The young priest’s small party fights off the violent attacks of the tribe of the Iroquois before they reach their destination. When it’s there Father LaForgue finds the mission in a tragic state.

The cast of Black Robe: While there are many notable great actors and actresses that play on this movie my favorite actors were the main character Father LaForgue (Lothaire Bluteau), and Chomina played by the late great August Schellenberg
